Laya Lingzhi: The Snow Leopard Trail

The Laya–Lingzhi Trek is a 115‑km Himalayan journey from Paro to Laya, crossing 5,000m Sinchen La. It blends high‑altitude adventure with the unique cultures of Lingzhi and Laya's highland villages.

Overview

The Laya–Lingzhi Trek is one of Bhutan’s two classic long-distance Himalayan adventures. Covering approximately 115 kilometers through the remote northwestern Himalayas of Bhutan. The trek starts at Shana in Paro and culminates at the army post below the highland settlement of Laya, one of Bhutan’s most culturally distinct settlements, after crossing the formidable Sinchen La Pass at 5,000 meters — the highest point of the trek.
A defining highlight, apart from the trekking adventure, is the opportunity to experience the unique culture of Bhutan’s highland villages of Lingzhi and Laya, whose traditional way of life remains deeply connected to the traditions of high mountains. More than a physical challenge, the Laya–Lingzhi Trek is an enriching exploration of Bhutan’s wilderness and living heritage, offering a rare blend of adventure, solitude, and authentic human connection in one of the Himalayas’ most untouched regions.
