Our Origins
It is a promise my father started, and one my team and I intend to keep - that Bhutan should be shared in the way it deserves.
My late father Dorji Gyeltshen founded Bhutan Tours and Travels in 1988. Up until then, he had served as the Director of the tourism arm of the Royal Government of Bhutan. Drawing on years of experience shaping Bhutan's tourism sector, he established one of the country's first private tour companies. After his untimely passing in 1998, the tour company fell into dormancy.
Fast forward close to two decades, this evolution is now headed by Pasa Ugyel towards a direction of mindful exploration. After studying and living abroad in India, Canada, and Austria, I came home to Thimphu. And in returning, I understood what my father must have known all along - that Bhutan is not just a place you visit. It is a place that you're changed by, if you journey through it. During my final years of university, I became a tour guide and found my calling guiding others in between my final semesters. Today, I enjoy curating and guiding transformative travel expeditions that create the space to explore, not just the physical world but of the human spirit.

He specialises in creating bespoke experiences that showcase the rich culture, landscapes and resilient people of the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. When he's not curating adventures, you’ll find him trekking, savoring local delicacies in a new city, diving into a good book, and capturing light and shadows with his camera. A curious and gentle soul, Pasa seeks to unlearn and learn indigenous ways of living, one journey at a time.

+ 10 YearsTashi Wangmo is a project finance officer at a CSO called Bhutan Ecological Society, she oversees the project finances for environmental programs, making sure that conservation efforts are supported by responsible financial planning. When she's not working at her desk, she assists local agencies and business owners in maintaining organization by carefully managing bookkeeping, filing GST, and negotiating the complexities of wage and business tax. Tashi is a committed and grounded professional who aims to combine her talent for financial clarity with her dedication to environmental sustainability. She believes that consistent financial management is the foundation of any successful initiative, whether it's a growing business or a national conservation project.

+20 years‘Azha (Uncle) Wangdi’, as he is popularly known by the people by his colleagues, is a veteran in the tourism industry. If you are in a group of more than two, he will be one of the first people to greet and welcome you to Bhutan at the Paro airport with his Toyota Van, named Norbu.
